The Idiot Kids “Chapels” LP

  • 2000

On their second full-length effort, Detroit’s IDIOT KIDS embrace their influences while staying steadfastly true to their singular frenetic style. Eschewing most of their earlier hard edged sensibilities, on “Chapels”, the group offers a more intimate and unconventional view into queer culture and the multifaceted beliefs that shape it.

The Idiot Kids have been keeping punk weird since 2011. Based out of Detroit, they have the energy of punk, the roughened aesthetic of garage rock and the melodic sensibilities of art pop. This is music with shake-you-up hooks, frenzied tempos, gnarly guitars and anthemic vocals. Known for their live performances; they blend the theatricality of glam with the raw energy of hardcore.

These tracks were recorded by the band in their basement practice space in Hamtramck, MI along with a few songs tracked at a cabin in Northern Michigan. Written, Engineered and Mixed by their lead singer and founder Jon-Mikal Bartee; this album fully represents the DIY heart of the group with some of their most raw and emotional tracks to date.
